For many of us, the backpack has been a part of our lives since we were kids, accompanying us on our worst and best days.

Backpacks also make great companions for hiking, as well as other outdoor activities. Now more than ever, this once solely practical accessory has proven its versatility in the midst of the pandemic, accompanying folks as they safely venture outdoors. But finding a perfect backpack that meets all of our needs can be a challenge. 

On sustainability, backpacks have lag behind other gear categories, where the outdoor industry has embraced sustainability and shoppers now routinely find organic cotton, fabrics made from recycled materials, safer chemical processes and recycling programs that breathe new life into discards. 

Fortunately, the sustainability movement has been gaining traction among pack manufacturers, and more options are about to hit the market. The larger brands are really getting behind this direction to make packs more sustainable.
